Copyright and DMCA

How to tell us that a site on Sitific uses your work without permission, and what happens next.

Sending a notice

If you own the copyright in something that appears on a site hosted by Sitific without your permission, send us a notice at [email protected], or use the report form and choose "Copyright infringement". To act on it, we need:

  1. your name, address, telephone number and email address;
  2. a description of the work you say is infringed;
  3. the address (URL) of each page with the material, so we can find it;
  4. a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by you, your agent or the law;
  5. a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you own the right or are authorised to act for its owner;
  6. your physical or electronic signature.

These are the elements the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. ยง 512(c)(3)) asks for; we accept notices that give them from anywhere.

What we do

When a complete notice arrives, we remove or disable access to the material and tell the site's owner, with a copy of the notice. We may suspend a site while we look into it.

Counter-notice

If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake, or that you have the right to use it, you may send us a counter-notice with: your name, address and telephone number; the material removed and where it was; a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification; your consent to the jurisdiction of the courts for your address (or, outside the United States, any court where we may be found); and your signature. We pass it to the person who sent the original notice, and may restore the material after 10 to 14 business days unless they tell us they have started legal action.

Repeat infringers

We close the accounts of people who infringe copyright again and again.

False notices

A notice or counter-notice that knowingly misstates the facts can make its sender liable for damages. If you are not sure that material infringes your rights, take advice first.
